IRON BEAM OVERVIEW

RAFAEL’s IRON BEAM is a 100kW class High Energy Laser Weapon System (HELWS) that will soon become the first operational system in its class. The system rapidly and effectively intercepts a wide spectrum of threats – including RAM and UAVs as well as swarms of mini-UAVs – with pinpoint accuracy from a range of a few hundred meters to up to several kilometers.

As a HEL system, IRON BEAM can engage at the speed of light, has an unlimited magazine, negligible cost per interception, and causes limited collateral damage. The system, which complements RAFAEL’s IRON DOME in Israel, can be integrated on a variety of platforms and can become part of any multilayer air defense system.

RAFAEL has been developing Directed Energy systems including HEL systems for over thirty years and is considered a global leader in the field, achieving technological breakthroughs that have enabled the development of a complete HEL weapon system. The company works closely with Israel’s Ministry of Defense and serves as the HEL National Center for Excellence and the National Lethality Lab.
